Often, infographics fall flat because they’re confusing, misleading, or simply poorly designed for their intended purpose.
Many mistakenly believe that improving their graphic design skills is the solution, focusing only on aesthetics. But no amount of visual polish can fix an infographic that fails to convey its message properly.
Our Infographics - Visual Storytelling, a data storytelling and information visualization course is different. We teach corporate professionals how to transform data and information into visual narratives that not only shines, but make sense too.
Effective infographics is beyond looking good—they need to communicate complex information clearly, through well-structured design and strategic storytelling.
Don’t just beautify your data—make it meaningful. Join us to master the true art of Infographics - Data Storytelling.
While graphic designers are undoubtedly skilled in visual aesthetics and layout, information designers bring a specialized understanding of data storytelling, data visualization, information hierarchy, and user-centered design to the creation of infographics. By learning from an information designer, you can develop a comprehensive set of skills to create infographics that effectively communicate complex information and engage your audience.
Information designers work with domain and data experts who provide in-depth analysis. With the client's communication goals in mind, they utilize data storytelling techniques, psychology, and design to convey messages. Their primary expertise lies in visualizing information and data, ensuring learning efficiency and effective recollection.
Graphic designers work with clients or art directors to define the scope of a project. They develop artistic illustration and use design to create emotional experiences. Their expertise is in creating something new, provoke thoughts, push boundaries, and look beautiful.
Look at their work samples. Information designers eat, breath, and do infographics. Graphic designers eat, breath and do graphics, websites, and branding. Be wary of trainers with no or little commercial information design experience
Many 1- or 2-day infographics design courses are really graphic design or software course in disguise. While design is important, heavy focus on design will leave little time for you to develop a comprehensive set of skills to create infographics. Design is just one of a few crucial skill area you must master.
Learning how to use a software e.g. PowerPoint, Canva, etc… will not improve one’s ability to create good infographics.
Avoid courses that entice you with many free templates. These are not very useful, and Canva has more and probably better ones.
This infographics design course is for anyone who needs to explain, inform or educate people in a visual way but is not formally trained in information design.
Master data storytelling through infographics to communicate insights in reports, in presentations, on social media and across many media globally. This applies to both qualitative and quantitative information. However, there is little guidance out there on how to get started and how to get the best out of these crucial but often overlooked elements.
To develop the skills needed to create good infographics, participants complete hands-on exercises wrapped around short lectures. Working in groups, participants will create infographics based on data sources, explore ideas, discuss with peers, critique each other's work, and receive guidance from the trainer.
We will explore:
Explore and discuss ideas
Design and mock up an infographic
Translate infographic designed on Day 1 using app / software
Design infographic using targeted / limited parameters set in class
